Sampling

Strategy

My sampling method used a combination of non-probability purposive and probability stratified. I purposively chose 5 Disney Channel television shows that line up with a different five-year time frame over the past 20 years. I also made sure that each show was one of the most popular for the time as well as had a female lead.

Shows:

According to Seventeen Magazine, these shows were amongst the highest in pre-teen popularity during their time (Devoe and Fuentes 2020). The source I used to watch the shows is DisneyPlus+. In total, I watched and analyzed 25 episodes. Once I made a sample of 5 series, I went into each and chose 5 episodes. I purposively sampled an episode from each season to get a better understanding of the character’s development throughout the course of the series.
